Murder of Nikolai Volkov
On the evening of 27 March 2017, approximately at 10:30pm Nikolai Volkov, the head of construction department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, was found dead in Moscow on the Osennaya Street with gunshot wounds discovered on his body. “Interfax” quoted the source in law enforcement agencies claiming that the body found belonged to Nikolai Volkov.[1] According to the investigative committee of Russia, the assault was exclusively aimed at the purpose of robbery.
The incident occurred at the car parking area, where an intensive negotiation between the victim and two unknown people began at first, and then one of the aggressors took out a gun and fired twice at the victim. Subsequently the attackers tried to hide the body, but at the end decided to leave it on the ground and vanished.[2]
The representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia in Moscow, Yulia Ivanova, stated that the criminal case has been opened according to the articles on murder, robbery and illegal arms trafficking.
On the following day, on 28 March 2017, according to the representative of Ministry of Internal Affairs, Irina Volk, the police are in search of the attackers that have murdered Nikolai Volkov in the west of the capital of Russian Federation. In the meantime police forces use all means in order to identify and arrest the attackers by operative-search measures.[3]
As quoted by the official representative of MIA of Russia, “Attackers took the briefcase of an MIA officer and fired at him from an unidentified firearm into the chest area. He has immediately passed away from the wounds he received. Afterwards that attackers have disappeared”.[4]
Later, interesting information has been revealed that potentially could help this case to be resolved. Media claimed, more specifically “RIA Novosti”, that a letter of resignation of Nikolai Volkov from his occupation has been written very shortly before his murder.[5]
Also, in consistence with another Russian multimedia information source, “L!fe”, Nikolai Volkov complained to his family that assets valued at almost 10 billion rubles were stolen from his department, and that he was forced to sign documents that made all transactions clear. Moreover the editorial office informs that Volkov revealed multibillion-theft transaction and appointed many internal checks including stocktaking.[6]
