Musikki is a free online music platform service founded in 2010 by Portuguese entrepreneurs João Afonso, Juliana Teixeira and Pedro Almeida as an easy-to-use[1] music search engine for online users and consumers.[2] Since its creation, a Facebook app (Musikki Social Player) and a 2.0 version were released in 2011 and September 10, 2013, respectively. Musikki has been widely epitomized as the “music Google”.[3][4]
Musikki music platform
Musikki music platform works primarily as a search engine: users type the name of an artist, album or song and the relational search algorithm gathers, filters and associates all the scattered and related content and data available on the Web in order to display the following information:
- Basic data: names, genres, releases, track listing.
- Descriptive content: biographies, styles.
- Streaming content: videos (via YouTube), songs (via Spotify and Rdio).
- Relational content: similar artists and albums, influences.
- Editorial content: biographies, reviews, rankings.
- Social content: social media official profiles and references.
- Ephemeral content: news, upcoming shows (with hyperlinks to purchase tickets).
Musikki users can create a Musikki profile or sign in via their Facebook account, track the info of an artist and share their Musikki relational content on the same social media platforms.
In March 2013, Musikki’s relational search algorithm reached 1.6 million artists.[5]
Musikki Social Player
Musikki Social Player is a Facebook app, launched in February 2012, that allows users to create a music playlist based on a pre-selected list of their Facebook friends, pages or favorites. The related algorithm scans and selects the filtered music content and creates a music video playlist that can be streamed uninterruptedly.[5]
Since the release of Musikki 2.0, Musikki Social Player was integrated into the same platform, which allows users to use the app outside of Facebook.
