Muslim Students Organization (MSO) of India is an students and youth wing of Sunni Sufi Muslims of India.It is working in several parts of India with an alliance of Sunni Students Federation in South India. Syed Muhammad Quadri is the current National President of the organization.”Kunu Ma’sassadeqeen” And Be with the Truthful (Quran)is the slogan of the organization.[1][2]

Formation and Ideology[edit]

Formed in 1977 at Aligarh Muslim University by students and academicians ,MSO of India follows traditional version of Islam i.e. Sunni Sufi ideology on the basis of Quran and Sunnah. MSO is developing overall character of youths by providing them a good Islamic atmosphere in educational institutes specially in the colleges and Universities.MSO is of the view that Sufi Islamic teachings based on Peace, Mutual Cooperation, Love, Brotherhood and Communal Harmony are Only alternative Left before the World in Order to establish Peace.[3]

Patron in Chief is Prof Syed Muhammad Ameen Mian Qaudri Barkaati ,Professor in department of Urdu Aligarh Muslim University,is also caretaker (Sajjada Nashin) of Sufi Dargah and Khanqaah-e-Barkaatiya, Marehra Shareef & President, Jamia Al Barkaat Aligarh U.P and Sheikh Abu Baker Kanthapuram A. P. Aboobacker Musalyar head of Markazus Saqafatus Sunniya,who is also the secretary-general of the All India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulama,Calicut Kerala.[4][5]

Aims and Objective[edit]

  • To spread education among the various sections of the society with the active help of youths
  • To prepare students as active contributors to the community and country
  • To build the society based on the Islamic morality and spirituality
  • To build the Intellectual leadership for the Muslims of India[6]

MSO organizes following programmes through its various Units across the country [7][8]

  • Weekly Dars-e-Quran or Towards Understanding Quran Program
  • Career and Job guidance events
  • Annual Azmate-e-Rasool SAW Conferences and Mawlid Conferences
  • Summer Islamic Conferences
  • Meritorious students Award ceremonies
  • Raising all Important community issues at national and state level
  • Organizes Protests and Press conferences to express its views
  • Distribution of literature and books among students and youths
  • Establishing Madarsas and coaching and guidance centers

Expansion[edit]

Muslim Students Organization of India (MSO) has elected new team of state leaders in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. The Rajasthan election was held on 23 June while state leaders in UP were elected on 22 June in the city of Bareilly U.P.[9]

  • West Bengal-MSO organised a peace conference in Murshidabad district of West Bengal, where student from all over West Bengal gathered to listen to Sufi leaders who asked them to stay from extremist Wahabism and Salafism.[10]

  • Protest against legalization of Homosexuality

MSO in coordination with 'Desh Bachao Andolan' organized a seminar at the Press Club of Jaipur on the topic 'Homosexuality is danger to society and humanity'.Each and every action of the West can't be imitated as our social and moral norms are totally different from them and in many studies it has been found that disease of AIDS spread more faster through this unnatural act", said Shujaat Ali Qadri, Gen Secretary of Muslim Students Organization of India (MSO) Rajasthan State.[11]

  • Masjid-e-Al Aqsa and Palestine Issue

Global March to Jerusalam- M.S.O national President is in the Asian Team of the Asian People's solidarity forum and was part of the delegation along with its National secretary Shujaat Ali Quadri in Global March to Jerusalam in the year 2012.[12] The March was quite Successful in its aim and thousands of people from different nations protested at Israel Border along with Lebanon on 30 March 2012 on the occasion of Land Day.[13][14]

  • Freedom of Palestine and Al Aqsa Mosque Conference

MSO of India Rajasthan State Committee on 14 July 2012, organised Freedom of Palestine and Al Aqsa Mosque Conference in the city of Jaipur in which Zuhair Hamdallah, Second Consul at the Palestinian Embassy in India participated as Chief Guest to the convention – said the Indian activists were consistently supporting all global movements for freedom of Palestine. He noted that the “global march to Jerusalem” earlier this year had a significant presence of Indians.MSO demanded Palestinian self-determination, ending of Israeli occupation and right of return for Palestinian refugees. We the Indian people stand in solidarity with the courageous Palestinian nation in their struggle against the Israeli Zionist colonial occupation of their homeland. The Indian people ever since the days of our own independence movement have steadfastly supported the Palestinian nation,” said Syed Muhammad Quadri, President of MSO.[15][16]

  • Protest against Religious discrimination

Harassment on Keeping Beard The MSO of India lodged a complaint with the chairman of National Commission for Minorities, seeking his intervention into the various cases of religious discrimination with Muslim Students. Condemning the discriminatory attitude of the college administration, MSO general secretary, Advocate Shahnawaz Warsi said: “We have urged the Minority panel to take the matter seriously because such incident is happening time and again and no solid action has been taken against the involved schools and colleges.[17]
