MyVoice is a health research study which uses text messages to reach adolescents in the United States. The program was founded in 2016 and is administered by Michigan Medicine.[1] As of 2020, the study had 1,174 youth participants from 932 unique ZIP Codes.[2]

Study[edit]

MyVoice is a longitudinal study targeted at youth in the United States between the ages of 14 and 24. Members of the study receive text message surveys on a weekly basis about a variety of topics.[3] Most surveys are between three and five questions about a single topic, and all questions are open-ended, allowing participants to respond in their own words.[4][5] Responses from the study participants are analyzed using thematic analysis.[6]

Topics[edit]

Research papers using data from the MyVoice study have been published on topics including youth coping behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States,[6][7] youth views of Juul use (vaping) in the United States,[8][9] and youth perceptions of the word obese.[10]

A MyVoice paper on youth perceptions of and experiences with active shooter drills was selected by the Journal of Adolescent Health as one of the "Distinguished Dozen" articles in the field of adolescent health for 2021.[11]
