Myrk

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Myrk (Kyrgyz: Мырк) is a derogatory term commonly used in Kyrgyzstan by the wealthier people of Kyrgyzstan, referring to a poor, uneducated Kyrgyz person from the province living in the city of Bishkek.[1][dead link] It is a synonym for the word mambet which is used in Kazakhstan, haryp in Uzbekistan, redneck in the United States, and gopnik or bydlo in Russia.

History

The word myrk originates from the term myryk kishi, which is a very old Kyrgyz way of calling a person with a congested nose who talks through it. Some time later, the term came to describe people who lack manners and are usually rude, regardless of where they are from. The new meaning of myrk refers to those with poor knowledge of the Russian language, who dress a certain way, and are usually in public places.

Definition

People classified as myrks usually range from ages 13–40, due to the fact that people below 13 are considered children, and people above 40 would be considered the older generation, and it would simply be rude for the youth to insult them.

Appearance

The stereotypical myrk, much like the Russian gopnik, dresses in a full Adidas sweat suit, or just the sweatpants along with any t-shirt, dress shoes, and a hat worn precisely on the tip of the head. Other modern-day myrks can often be spotted in leather jackets, baseball caps, usually with sunflower seed or cigarettes in their hands. Myrks are usually dark-skinned, with dark hair. The typical modern-day myrk hangs out in public areas, such as shopping centers and the Main Square.

The stereotypical myrk loves taking pictures of himself, usually with guns, knives, alcohol, and with his fellow myrks, whistling to random people on the street, spitting on the sidewalks, and picking on random strangers for their own entertainment.
