NEM, New Economy Movement [1] is a cryptocurrency written in Java [2] and JavaScript. Launched on March 31, 2015 [3].
The idea for NEM came from UtopianFuture on the bitcointalk.org forum and was inspired by the NXT project to implement the NEM blockchain.[4] Since UtopianFuture was not a technical specialist, he did not design the project, but only took part as a marketer. At this point, the main developers of NEM (Bloodyrookie, Gimre, Jaguar 0625) joined the development of the project. Also, on January 19, 2014 [5] an article titled "NEM Genesis" was released on bitcointalk.org, encouraging people to participate in the project. UtopianFuture later retired from NEM. [6] The goal of the project was to create a digital currency focused on social needs. The NEM team not only aimed to create disruptive technologies Proof-of-Importance (POI)[7], but also wanted to create a full-fledged NEM community. [8]
