Nabto is known for developing an IoT communication platform, which uses P2P and distributed technology to solve the inherent challenges of IoT.

The company is known for working on other research projects, such as MVaaS and MODES.[1]

History[edit]

Nabto was founded in 2007 and is based in Denmark. In 2010 the company secured over $1 million in funding.

In 2012, a team at the company presented at IoT Week, discussing the development of P2P within the IoT Industry.[2]

In 2013, the company became involved in co-founding the IoT International Forum. They co-founded the community with Alexandra Instituttet A/S, ARC Research Network on Intelligent Sensors, Sensor Networks and Information Processing, Copenhagen Business School, Dunavnet D.O.O., Easy Global Market SAS, ESP Central Limited, Grundfos, Hildebrand Technology Limited, ICT Technology Network Institute, iHomeLab – Hochschule Luzern T&A, Institute for Information Industry, Mandat International, Nabto and University of Surrey.[3]

When the Internet of Things International Forum was founded, it was a non-profit organization. Its aim at the time was discussing the development of the Internet within devices to sense either their internal states or the external environment.

Product Development[edit]

Nabto have been involved in creating a number of innovative developments in hardware and software solutions. In September 2012, Nabto announced they were working on a video camera solution that would detect break ins before they occurred. Nabto would provide the transmitting element of the project, which is led by Milestone Systems. It was reported that the project totaling DKK 30 million, with 15 million from the Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation.[4] [5]

The MVaaS system is being developed in collaboration with Aalborg University (AAU) and Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The solution is to be known as MVaaS (Managed Video as a Service).[4]

Later in 2012, the company announced it would be working with Danfoss, to develop web access as an extra product feature.[6] It will provide great benefits to the installer, the solar panel vendor and the end user in terms of installation, maintenance, support and performance monitoring options.[7] [8]

In the same year, Nabto played a role in a great smart grid experiment at Copenhagen Business School. Nabto were responsible for developing the temperature measuring equipment for the revolutionary experiment.[9]

In 2013, the company undertook its latest project working on FreeRTOS+. The product brings simplicity, platform independence, inclusive cloud hosting services, and entry-level access to Nabto’s Internet of Things solution.[10]

The FreeRTOS+Nabto is an event driven multi-tasking environment that allows the application to benefit from FreeRTOS’s special low power tickless operation.[11] [12]

In the same year, their founder Carsten Rhod Gregersen was a guest speaker at the Living bits and Things event.[13] [14]

Nabto was chosen by the Royal Danish Embassy in Seoul as one of 5 most promising danish technologies for a governmental supported introduction into Asia with special focus on South Korea. The event should have been led by the Danish Prime minister, but she unfortunately had to fly to EU for discussion about events in Ukraine. The delegation was instead led by the Minister of Trade and development Mogens Jensen. [15][16][17]

Patents[edit]

In 2010, the company applied for a patent for the Distribution of HMI computation. The patent was described as a method and system for providing connectivity between clients connected to the Internet. The patent was passed in November 2010.[18]

A year later in 2011, the company applied for its second technical patent. The patent was for two-way P2P direct communication to devices, which was also a form of connectivity to devices.[19]
