Nadeem Jafri
Nadeem Jafri is an Indian entrepreneur and the founder of Hearty Mart[1], which is a retail and hospitality enterprise based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Jafri has impacted the regional retail landscape by fostering entrepreneurship and bridging the gap between urban and rural markets.[citation needed] Jafri launched his first supermarket at Vishala circle in Ahmedabad in 2004[2]. It was further expanded to villages of Ilol, Idar and Vadnagar in Central and North Gujarat.[3]
Early Life and Education
Jafri graduated with a BSc in Physics from St. Xaviers College, Ahmedabad[4]. Jafri, in his initial days of career, worked in a Mumbai-based agency. He quit his agency job and moved back to Ahmedabad in 2004. The same year, he founded Hearty Mart, a retail grocery store at Vishala Circle, on the edge of Juhapura.[5]

Establishment of Hearty Mart
In 2004, recognizing the untapped potential of rural markets and the need for quality retail outlets in semi-urban areas, Nadeem Jafri decided to build a community store Heartymart in Ahmedabad's Juhapura locality.[6] Starting as a single supermarket in a suburban locale, it now has 14 outlets in Gujarat.
Franchising Model
Nadeem Jafri introduced a franchising model that lowered entry barriers for aspiring business owners.[7] By offering support in store setup, supply chain management, and marketing, Hearty Mart enabled local entrepreneurs to manage stores under its brand. This model not only expanded the company’s reach but also empowered individuals in rural areas to become self-sufficient business owners.[8] From 1 store in Juhapura to over 10 retail chains in Gujarat; Hearty Mart’s secret ingredient is community funding[9]
