Ali Jubril NamanjoAbout this soundpronunciation popularly known as NamenjAbout this soundpronunciation, is a Nigerian Afropop and Afrobeat singer and songwriter born in Ibadan city, Oyo State, Nigeria.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

Namenj was born and raised in Ibadan, south-western Nigeria. His parents are from northern Nigeria; his father is from Kontagora in Niger State, his mother from Kano State (Hausa: Jihar Kano). Namenj's parents relocated to Ibadan, living in the Hausa community area, called Sabo, where Namenj was born. He completed his primary and secondary education in Ibadan.

While growing up, Namenj developed an interest in music, listening to songs by Westlife, Celine Dion and Dan Maraya among others. He speaks several languages: Hausa, Yoruba, and English. As of 2021, Namenj is studying at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Kano study centre.[2][3]

Career[edit]

Namenj began recording music in 2012. In 2015, he recorded a cover in the Hausa language of Adekunle Gold's hit "Orente", which received much attention through social media. Since his entry into the music industry, Namenj has released several songs.[4][5]

He has received awards in recognition of his music, including the emPawa Africa Award.[6][7]
