Nancy Howes is an entrepreneur, educator, artist, philanthropist, mother and wife of Tim Howes. She is the Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of children’s education company, Know Yourself.
Education and early career[edit]
Howes holds a BFA in Metal Arts with High Distinction from California College of the Arts and a Masters of Education, M.Ed. from Cambridge College.[1]
Howes’ artwork is on permanent display at the Maui Ocean Center. Prior to her work as an artist, Howes held key management positions at tech companies including Raytheon, Texas Instruments, BBN Planet and @Home Network.
Know Yourself[edit]
In 2012, Howes co-founded Know Yourself,[2] a public benefit corporation[3] based in Oakland, California, dedicated to making self literacy a vital part of early education. The company designs and sells products that teach kids about their anatomy, physiology, and psychology, including activity kits, books, comics, and various apparel and lifestyle products. Howes serves as Chief Creative Officer.[4]
Know Yourself products have been recognized with a Parents’ Choice Award,[5] two Tillywig Brain Child Awards,[6][7] a National Parenting Products Award[8] and a Nautilus Book Award.[9]
Boards and philanthropic efforts[edit]
Howes serves on the Board of Trustees at her alma mater, California College of the Arts[10] and also as a Board Member for 51Oakland. She previously served on the Board of Trustees for New Langton Arts and is active in several philanthropic and cultural organizations supporting education, the arts and social justice, including SFJazz, 51Oakland, Drawbridge: An Arts Program for Homeless Children, the Susan Wood Memorial Scholarship and the Sequoia High School Technology Program.[11]
