Nancy Pili Hernandez (1980-Present) is a muralist and activist in the San Francisco Bay Area known for participating in the installation of a "RESIST" banner near the White House in 2017 [1].
Biography[edit]
Nancy Pili Hernandez was born February 8, 1980. As a Mission District native she was frequently inspired by the murals unique to the historically latino/chicano neighborhood. She received her Associate of Arts (AA) degree in 2003 from City College of San Francisco. She later went to San Francisco State University, where she graduated in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in Raza Studies and a minor in Art education.[2]
She taught at Mission District High School, and June Jordan Small School for Social Equity. Pili went on to advocate for racial, educational, environmental and social equality. As a high school student, she painted a mural advocating for environmental justice[3].
Notable Works[edit]
In 2015 Nancy Pili helped organize the Versus Shell movement in Portland, Oregon where she suspended from St. Johns Bridge for 40 hours to block a Shell oil vessel[4].
Nancy Pili frequently works with Precita Eyes as an Artist for their mural projects around San Francisco [5]. She has been accredited for many of their murals.
In 2017 Nancy Pili, with the Greenpeace activists, hung a "RESIST" banner on a construction crane in Washington D.C. as a message to the Trump Administration[6]
