Rotering earned an undergraduate degree at Stanford University and an MBA at Northwestern University. She held positions at the Mayo Clinic and at General Motors before attending the University of Chicago Law School. After graduating from law school, she worked at McDermott, Will & Emery.[5]

Electoral history[edit]

Rotering was elected to the Highland Park City Council in 2009, and was elected mayor of Highland Park in 2011, 2015, and 2019.[2] In 2019, her opponent in the mayoral race was Bob Crimo, [3] who is the father of Highland Park parade shooting suspect Robert Crimo III.[6][7]

In the 2016 United States House of Representatives elections in Illinois, Rotering lost to Brad Schneider in the Democratic primary for Illinois's 10th congressional district.[8] She had been endorsed by US Senator Dick Durbin.[9]

In 2018, Rotering ran for Illinois Attorney General but lost in the Democratic primary to Kwame Raoul.[10]

In 2021, she was a running to be a justice of the Supreme Court of Illinois, but lost in the Democratic primary to Lake Country Circuit Court judge Elizabeth Rochford.[11]
