In December 2022, Speiser, along with son and his neighbor, former Cardinals pitcher Danny Cox, were given citations for poaching by the Illinois Conservation Police.[2][3][4]

In March 2025, Speiser defended the use of the disability slur "midget" as the mascot for Freeburg Community High School: “Once a Midget always Midget — that's our motto around here. And I think 100% of people agree with me on that issue.”[6]
