Naoki Morioka (森丘 直樹 Morioka Naoki) is a Japanese guitarist and a musical arranger in distributors Being Inc., mainly in their label Giza Studio. Since 2017, he is a member of a rock band Dps and since 2019 a member of instrumental rock band Wweezz as a guitarist and a composer.[1][2]
Biography
Naoki started his career in 2014 with the release of an omnibus album of young Japanese guitarists, Guitar Battle Workshop.[3] Between 2015-2016 he released solo albums, which were available during that time only at the live venue, however since 2020 they became available on music download services.
Since then, his talent has been acknowledged by other staff at Giza Studio. The first result of this acknowledgment was being part of the tribute project D-project in which he was involved in recording of the album "D-project with Zard" as guitarist and arranger in 2016.[4][5] On the same year and since then, he became a regular member of the band tributing Zard in regular live projects, What a beautiful memory. The DVD was released in 2017.[6]
In early 2017, he became a member of the indie rock band Dps along with the vocalist Ryosuke Kimura, Tsuyoshi Yasui and the former member of Naifu, Atsushi Kawamura. He held his first band live in April at the live venue Hills Pankojo[7]. In November of the same year, the band released their first independent album Begins with Em under the indies label Tent House. The album was successful, reaching No.1 in Tower Records Kansai rankings[8][9]
2018 was a busy year for Naoki.
In October 2018, Naoki participated in music production, recording as a guitarist on the special project KYOTO RIMPA ROCKERS. The main producer of this project is the owner of Being Inc., Daiko Nagato.[10][11] In November 2018, his band made their major debut with the release of Timeline. The single served as an opening theme for the Anime television series Detective Conan.[12][13][14] In December, he participated in music production, recording as a guitarist on Daigo’s cover album Deing.[15][16]
During that period and since then, he has regularly collaborated with American guitarist Marty Friedman as a band member in his live tours around Japan and Australia.[17][18][19]
In 2019, he became a member of the Japanese instrumental rock band Wweezz. In 2020, the band released their digital EP "Kono Koudou ni Hi wo Tsukete".[20]
He is active as of 2022.
