Natasha Nane Pavlovich is a Serbian-American business woman, actress, former model and beauty pageant contestant.[2] Pavlovich represented Miss Yugoslavia and competed in Miss Universe 1991, where she reached semifinals.[3] She is also known for her roles in various films and work on national prime time TV shows. Recently, Pavlovich appeared as the anchor character in the HBO Max docuseries, The Way Down: God, Greed, and the Cult of Gwen Shamblin.[4][5][6][7]

Background[edit]

Natasha Pavlovich was born in Popovi, a village in the municipality of Bijeljina, Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina.[2] As a child, she moved with her family to Chicago, US, and later moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.[2][8] She holds a degree in English Language from the University of California, Los Angeles.[2][9][10] She has a daughter with Joe Lara from their previous relationship.[1] [11] She has a daughter with Joe Lara from their previous relationship.[1] Pavlovich has a pilots license and co-piloted MIG-25 [12][10] to the gates of space at 87,000 feet. She is also a spokesperson for the city of Slobomir, a town located in Republika Srpska and founded by her aunt and uncle.[2]

Career[edit]

Beauty pageants[edit]

In 1989, Pavlovich won the title of Miss Beverly Hills. She was crowned Miss Yugoslavia in 1991, later representing the country in the Miss Universe pageant held in Las Vegas, progressing to the semifinals.[13][8][10]

Film and television[edit]

Since 1987, Pavlovich has been a professional actress in Hollywood, portraying characters in television dramas, sitcoms and films. Pavlovich has appeared in more than 60 episodes of various television series portraying Russian, Romanian, Iraqi and Czech characters, among others. Her significant roles on television include playing Marina Oswald Porter on a two part special of Quantum Leap,[14] Judging Amy,[14] Nip/Tuck,[13][15] Cybill,[14] JAG (TV series),[8] Quantum Leap[8] and The Agency (2001 TV series). Disney/NBC Studios cast her in a regular role in the series Pride and Joy[14][15] after seeing her work on the Paramount Studios show, Wings. Pavlovich got to work with director Blake Edwards on the feature film Son of the Pink Panther. Natasha also played in the movies The Naked Truth and Space Warriors.[14] Pavlovich was also a regular in the popular Serbian drama series Gorki Plodovi (Bitter Fruit in Serbian), where she played an ophthalmologist.[16][17] Her life and career have been widely covered by the US and foreign media outlets.[3]

In the documentary series, filmed by multi award-winning director Marina Zenovich, produced by Campfire Films, Nile Cappello,[18] and Co-Executive produced by Chrissy Teigan, Pavlovich tells her side of the story of her relationship with Joe Lara, Lara's marriage to Gwen Shamblin Lara, and the subsequent legal battle between Pavlovic and Lara for custody of their daughter.[4] [6][19] [20]

Legal controversy and news appearance[edit]

In 2015, Lara petitioned the court for sole custody of their daughter, alleging that Pavlovich had sexually abused the child. The court, however, found these accusations to be baseless.[21] The custody trial began in 2016, with Pavlovich representing herself.[4][21] In 2020, the court granted both parties equal custody of their daughter. Following Lara's death in 2021, Pavlovich was awarded full custody and all decision-making rights.[21]

The 2021 Percy Priest Lake Cessna Citation crash, which resulted in the deaths of Pavlovich's ex-fiancé Joe Lara, his wife Gwen Shamblin Lara, and five other passengers associated with the Remnant Fellowship church, drew significant media attention to Pavlovich.[6][4][5][7] In the crash's aftermath, Pavlovich was concerned that her daughter may have been on the plane with Lara.[4] A 911 call recorded during this period reveals Pavlovich urgently seeking information about the plane's passengers and trying to establish contact with the child's father. Despite managing to contact Lara's mother, Pavlovich received vague information regarding her daughter's location. She was eventually reunited with her daughter at a gathering point for children who had lost parents in the crash.[5]
