Nathan Sharp (born Nathan Han Smith; March 1, 1989), better known as NateWantsToBattle, is a Korean-American[1] singer, voice actor and web video producer, he is best known for his English covers of anime and video game songs[2] as well as singing the official English version of Limit Break x Survivor, the second opening song for the anime Dragon Ball Super.[3]
Career
Music
On February 13, 2012, Sharp started his YouTube channel, he would start uploading music under the name NateWantsToBattle on June 10, 2012 with a Pokémon parody of Payphone originally by Maroon 5, he continued to upload parodies up until 2015.[4] He also uploaded various English anime covers which he still uploads to this day.
Sharp has released various albums, such as his Zelda album Songs of Time, which charted on Billboard's Independent Albums chart,[5][6] his cover album Thnks Fr Th Cvrs, which charted #18 on Billboard's Hard Rock Albums Chart,[6][7] his first original album Sandcastle Kingdoms, which charted #1 on the iTunes Alternative Albums Chart and Billboard's Heatseekers Chart,[1][8] and his second original album Paid in Exposure which charted #11 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers Chart, #33 on Billboard's Independent Album Chart and #3 on the iTunes Alternative Album Chart.[2][8]
On June 1, 2019, a webseries known as Dungeons & Dragons: Dice, Camera, Action that Sharp was in, along with other internet personalities Anna Prosser, Jared "ProJared" Knabenbauer and Holly Conrad went on a hiatus.[9]
On January 17, 2020, his cover of Halsey's Without Me was featured in the music magazine Alternative Press stating that "NateWantsToBattle brings both a rock and a metal element to the song that only he can pull off."[10]
On June 23, 2021, he sang Endless Possibility and Escape from the City in the Sonic 30th Anniversary Symphony concert, a concert celebrating 30 years of Sonic the Hedgehog.
On November 15, 2021, he sang the opening for Beyblade Burst QuadDrive, becoming the first artist to have sang multiple openings for the series, it was released on streaming services on December 3rd, 2022.
On June 9, 2022, the Give Heart Records YouTube channel was hacked and started streaming an Ethereum scam,[11] after a few hours the channel was terminated for being hacked, a day later, Sharp posted an Instagram story where he estimated that the hack had caused the label a loss of "hundreds in revenue, potentially thousands."[citation needed] The channel returned on June 18, 2022.
