Nathan Feuerstein, stage name NF, is an American Christian hip hop artist from Gladwin, Michigan. He is currently signed to Capitol Christian Music Group.
Early life
Feuerstein's biological parents divorced when he was five years old.[1] He and his two sisters lived for a short time with his mother and later with his father.[1] Feuerstein often went to his parents' van after they had arguments, where he would rap into a karaoke machine.[1][2][3] He later began to write music as an outlet for his feelings. Feuerstein considered a secular career. However, a lady in his church inspired him to embrace Christian music.[1]
Feuerstein and his mother subsequently began to develop their relationship. However, two weeks later, his mother died of a drug overdose.[1][3] Feuerstein has said that music was his way of coping with the pain and that his mother's death has heavily influenced his music.
Career
Feuerstein participated in a number of public music events to find a label, even while independently releasing the Moments album in 2010.[4] His performance at a statewide music event in Michigan enabled him to sign with record label Xist Music, for which he recorded an EP in 2012.[4] In 2013, he created a song titled "Start Over". Christian rap artist Flame heard the song, bought it from Feuerstein, and sang along with him.[1][5]
Feuerstein later released a number of singles, including "Beautiful Addiction" and "Wake Up".[4] He continued to tour and write songs while searching for a label. In 2014, he signed with Capitol Christian Music Group.[2][4] He adopted his initials as his stage name and released the album NF, which was recently lauded as one of the most notable Contemporary Christian albums of 2014.[1][2]
Feuerstein has an upbeat, fast-paced style, which has led to many comparisons with artist Eminem.[1] However, Feuerstein has said such comparisons annoy him. [6]
