Murdera Case
Nate is first introduced in episode 27, Abduction. Nate River quickly becomes the leader of the Near force. In episode 28, Impatience, Nate quickly asks L to cooperate with them, but then many members of Near die. Nate decided to tell the person who was answering the phone call that he knew that he was not the real person who led L, because he knew Ryuzaki Lawliet personally. In episode 30, Justice, the Near headquarters is attacked by protestors, as L decided to frame Near for the bombing of Mello, which resulted in 20 FBI deaths and a dangerous fire. Near escaped quickly, and then a member of L named Teru Mikami decided to bomb the building. Nate later phones L, telling them that they are quite close to finding out who Murdera is. During the next episode, Transfer, after the faked death of the Near team, Near now has to stay much more hidden. Commander Anthony Rester proposes the idea that since the only people who knew where Near headquarters was L, that meant that Murdera must have been in L. So, they send an elite squad of investigators to follow the members of L, known as the Kingdom of Murdera. However, when all of the members of Kingdom of Murdera die, Nate is 100% sure that Murdera is in L. During episode 33, Scorn, Nate hires more people to be in Kingdom of Murdera, but then Nate's employee Commander Stephen Givanni reports to him that Light Yagami killed the person following him. During the next episode, Vigilance, Nate decides to capture Light to take some information. Nate tells Light his real name to test if Light kills him later, and then he gives Light a challenge. He will let Light go if somebody dies of a stroke while Light is imprisoned. However, somebody actually dies, so Nate is forced to let Light go. During episode 36, 1.28, the meeting between Near and L happens. Nate first enters wearing a mask of Ryuzaki, but then takes it off and says that Murdera would be busted today. Then, Light starts laughing and writes down everybody's name. In the next and final episode, New World, when Light finished writing their names, nothing happened. Light is confused and writes down their names on every single piece of paper. However, nothing happened. Light is really confused, as right before entering he tested every single piece of paper, and they all worked. Nate reveals that they all legally changed their names, so that it would not work. Light pulls out the gun and shoots Nate, but the bullets are all NERF bullets. Light is confused, but Nate says that he was always one step ahead of Light. Light decides that enough is enough and clicks the button to detonate the dynamite, but it also does not work. Hideki Ide says that it was all thanks to Mihael Keehl that the dynamite didn’t work, as when Mail Jeevas was shot, they crashed into the factory. Right after strangling Mihael, Ide noticed that there was a crack in the ground, and it showed bits of dynamite. The dynamite had Light’s biometrics on it, so Ide told the rest of L and Near about this. They all changed their names and replaced the bullets with NERF. Light has one more plan, but Light is shot seven times in his leg by Touta Matsuda. Teru is shocked, as he hates violence, so he decides to commit suicide by stealing a piece of the notebook and writing his name down. While everybody is tending for Mikami, Light escapes. Everybody chases Light, including Nate. This is the last we see of Nate.
