Nathan Michael Yocum (born June 1, 1992) is an American film producer, publisher, writer, and the co-founder and President of Sumerian Comics.[5]
He's also worked at Sumerian Films where he produced the 2025 film Queen of the Ring[6] and Penthouse where he rebooted the Penthouse Comics line of publications.[1]
Sumerian Comics
Sumerian Comics is an American comic book publisher based in Nashville, Tennessee.[7] The company was founded in 2020 by Nathan Yocum and Ryan Swanson under the original name Behemoth Comics. The division reports selling over half a million (500,000+) comics annually and ranked 8th in total market share in 2021.[8][9] It has published licensed titles based on films such as American Psycho, The Crow, and Basic Instinct, as well as collaborations with musicians including Bad Omens, The Offspring, and Sleep Token. The publisher has also partnered with companies such as Ubisoft[10] and Netflix. Its titles are distributed globally by Simon & Schuster[11][12][13] and Diamond Comic Distributors. In July 2022, the company was renamed Sumerian Comics following its acquisition by the parent company Sumerian Entertainment Group.[14]
Sumerian Comics operates under the Sumerian Publishing Group, which also includes entities such as The Hard Times,[15][16] Hit Parader, and Sumerian Comics. Yocum serves as co-president of the group alongside business partner Ryan Swanson.
At Sumerian, Yocum has written graphic novels in collaboration with artists and groups such as Interpol,[17] Anberlin,[18] Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows[19] co-written with vocalist Craig Owens, and also with celebrities including Tony Hawk.[20]
Yocum also helped contribute to the curation of the American Psycho Comic Book Soundtrack released by Sumerian Records. The soundtrack included twelve songs by various artists like Puscifer, Ice Nine Kills, Reel Big Fish, Royal & the Serpent.[21][22][23][24]
Sumerian Pictures
Also based in Nashville, Yocum has been involved in several film projects with business partner Ash Avildsen.[6] The first, Queen of the Ring, was released on March 6, 2025, with a wide theatrical distribution. The film received a "Certified Fresh" rating from the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.[25]
Subsequently, it was reported by Variety that Sumerian would distribute Turnstile's visual album film TURNSTILE: NEVER ENOUGH to theaters, with a release date of June 5, 2025.[26]
Penthouse
Thirty years after its original incarnation, Penthouse Comics was relaunched as a comic magazine published by Penthouse.[27] The reboot is released in a traditional magazine format with 96 pages and a bi-monthly schedule. The publication has included work from a number of award-winning or nominated creators such as Matteo Scalera, Jeff Dekal, Joshua Swaby, Marc Aspinall, Vanesa Del Rey, and Maria Llovet.[1] As of 2025, the magazine continues its bi-monthly publication schedule, with Yocum serving as Publisher.[28]
As part of the publication, Yocum has interviewed various notable people such as Amouranth, Alinity, and Barbara Dunkelman.[29][30][31]
Other Ventures
Yocum has also worked as a Video game publisher, namely releasing titles on the Nintendo Switch, Steam and Epic Games Store platforms. These were released under the Behemoth Games banner, later rebranded and rolled up into Sumerian.[32]
Yocum worked with music labels such as Century Media Records, Metal Blade Records, Seek & Strike to release unique vinyl and cassette pressings for artists like Architects, Electric Callboy, among others under the brand WEAPON.[32][33]
