National Orchid Day[1] was founded by Mike and Faith Young and was registered through the National Day Registrar in 2015. The date of April 16 was designated as National Orchid Day as a commemoration to the couple's daughter who died during labor on April 16, 2014, her name is Orchid. On the year anniversary of losing Orchid a Kickstarter campaign was created with the goal of designating April 16 National Orchid Day which also falls within National Orchid Month.[2] Within the first day the campaign goal was met bringing in over $1,500.
National Orchid Day was envisioned to simultaneously increase appreciation for the beautiful flowers and also increase awareness concerning pregnancy/infant loss.
