Navy Seal copypasta
The Navy Seal copypasta (also known as the "Marine copypasta", "Internet tough guy copypasta" or "gorilla warfare copypasta")[1] is a lengthy, aggressive attack paragraph against a "kiddo", written in the voice of a stereotypical "tough guy", listing absurd accomplishments such as having "over 300 confirmed kills" and being "trained in gorilla [sic] warfare". This copypasta is often reposted as a humourous overreaction to an insult.[1][2]
History[edit]
The Navy Seals copypasta is thought to have originated a post on a 4chan message board from 11 November 2010.[1]
The copypasta did not receive widespread attention until 4 April 2012 when a Reddit user posted a YouTube comment containing the copypasta and a reply from a different user, who took the comment seriously and mocked the poster for misspelling "guerilla".[2]
On 13 February 2013, a 10-year-old posted a Mexican variation of the Navy Seals copypasta onto Facebook. His post spread quickly across the website where many users mocked him.[1] The next day, Mexican media picked up on his post.[3]
The perpetrator in the 15 March 2019 Christchurch mosque shootings put the Navy Seal copypasta in his manifesto.[4]
Variations[edit]
Due to its increased popularity, variations of the copypasta have appeared which copy the speech patterns of the chosen person. For example, the "Oxford Scholar" version of the copypasta reads "What outcry have you uttered about my person, you oafish brute? I shall cordially remind you that I was the best scholar in my law class in Oxford" in comparison to the original "What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals."[2]
