Her work has been frequently published in literary magazines like Sudha, Taranga and many others. She has won several prestigious awards in Kannada literature.

Early Life

Neeladevi is the second daughter of K. S. Ramaswamy and Rukminiamma. She was interested in literature as a young child. Always a voracious reader, she remembers reading books under the flashlight at bedtime. Her first published works were in a magazine called “Makkala pusthaka”, starting at age nine.

Personal Life and Career

Neeladevi was married to T. K. S. Iyengar at age thirteen. He encouraged her to write and helped to publish her first book "Bedi Bandavalu”.[1][circular reference], inspired by Jane Eyre, that was later adapted into a movie by the same name[2][circular reference] Because he was a geologist, they traveled extensively through coal mines in the interior forest of Vindhya Pradesh (the then dacoit infested Chambal Valley), and also Dehradun, Dwaraka, Bombay and other places. They have two children. Their older daughter, Rekha, is deaf, but has had a successful life and marriage. She worked in Canara Bank and is a well-known artist. She was the inspiration for the book, “Mooka Raga”[3]. Their younger daughter, Anita, is a retired paediatrician in the United States. Because of Neeladevi’s visits to the US, she has written about life there as well. Her travel and life experiences, meeting different people and experiencing landscapes have helped to create various backgrounds and genres in her stories.
