Nepal–Poland relations are bilateral relations between Nepal and Poland. Both nations are full members of the World Trade Organization and the United Nations.
History[edit]
Nepal declared war on Germany on 4 September 1939, the fourth day of the German invasion of Poland, which started World War II.[1]
Embassy-level diplomatic relations were established in 1959.[2] In 1966, a Trade and Payments Agreement was signed between the two countries.[3] In 1969, Nepalese Minister for Foreign Affairs Gehendra Bahadur Rajbhandari visited Poland.[3] In 1981 operations at the Polish embassy in Kathmandu were halted, and in 1991 an Honorary Consulate General of Poland was established in Kathmandu.[2] Since the 1990s, a number of official visits of ministers and deputy ministers of Nepal to Poland and of Poland to Nepal have taken place.[3]
In 2015, Poland sent 86 rescue workers with several tons or medical and expert rescue equipment to Nepal to help the relief operation after the April 2015 Nepal earthquake,[4] as well as 15 tons of humanitarian aid, including food, medicines, clothes, water purification tablets, etc., donated by the Material Reserves Agency, Ministry of National Defence and State Fire Service, as well as various charitable organizations, including the Polish Red Cross, Caritas Polska, Polish Medical Mission and Polish Humanitarian Action.[5]
In December 2018, President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari attended a United Nations Climate Change conference in Katowice, Poland,[2] where she had a bilateral meeting with President of Poland Andrzej Duda.[6]
