NetGain Technologies is a managed services provider founded and headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky. Ranked 38th in the U.S. for their technical certifications and industry expertise,[1] NetGain Technologies is also in the top 100 worldwide for quality of service, as listed by MSPmentor.[2]

The company provides design, implementation and management of high-performance information technology systems and solutions to small and medium businesses, financial institutions, healthcare providers, manufacturers and other companies in the southeastern and midwestern United States. NetGain Technologies employs over 100 people in both technical and non-technical positions.

History[edit]

Founded in 1984 by Don Jacobson, the company was a single-office, business-to-consumer computer store, operating as a franchise. One of the first employees was his son, and current CEO, Mark Jacobson. In 1995, Mark and his brother Jim purchased the company from their father. At this time, the company transitioned into a business-to-business model with a focus on advanced information technology solutions for business problems.

Over the decades, NetGain Technologies expanded from its Lexington headquarters, and as of 2013 has offices in Louisville, Kentucky; Little Rock, Arkansas; Chattanooga, Tennessee; and Cincinnati, Ohio.

In 2012, the company acquired local competitor, IntraSource.[3][4] Both companies had 28 year histories as technology solutions providers for Lexington and the surrounding Bluegrass region.

Founder[edit]

NetGain Technologies founder Don Jacobson did not start his company until in his 50s.[5] Before this, he served as an MP in the US military. He received his PhD degree from the University of Maryland in 1956 and went on to teach at the University of Kentucky in the Agriculture Animal Sciences department for almost 20 years. During that time he developed one of the largest dairy farms in Kentucky with his sons Jim, Dean, Ross and Mark. When Don originally founded NetGain Technologies, it was a small business-to-consumer shop. He said he opened the store after seeing an advertisement in a Lexington magazine saying "IBM dealer wanted".[6] Jacobson was also the member of several community and service organizations, including the Lexington Lions Club, where he was president and district governor.

Services[edit]

NetGain Technologies is one of the largest managed I.T. service providers in the southeastern and midwestern regions of the United States.[citation needed] It offers a variety of technology services.

Technology OneSource™[edit]

NetGain Technologies key service is their managed I.T. solution, termed Technology OneSource™.[7] With this service, clients pay a monthly subscription to NetGain Technologies who then manages all of their business technology using various tools including virtual help desk. According to NetGain Technologies, these services allow clients to "gain control of their IT", improve productivity, minimize network downtime and protect their business from critical data loss. In 2012, the company announced that due to client requests they have expanded this service to include 24x7 support as part of their "Always On" campaign. [8]

Other services[edit]

NetGain Technologies also provides solutions for unified communications, network security, and storage virtualization with benefits including disaster recovery, storage replication, and information lifecycle management. Management of a company's network security involves protection from malware and viruses as well as testing and uncovering flaws, remediation of the flaws and maintenance of the network to prevent breaches. NetGain Technologies is one of few companies with an Ethical Hacker certification.[citation needed]

Partners[edit]

NetGain Technologies partners include HP, Cisco, Microsoft, EMC, VMware, and SoftwareONE.

Certifications[edit]

The NetGain Technologies staff are known for having some of the best certification levels in its region,[9] [10][11] and in the country.[12] [13] In 2012, CRN TechElite 250 ranked NetGain Technologies 38th in the country.[14] According to CRN, the TechElite 250 is "the definitive list of solution providers with deep technical expertise and premier certifications serving customers in North America."[15]
