NethServer is a Linux distribution based on CentOS. The goal of the distribution is to create a flexible and modular multifunction server. Following the documentation, every installation can became a file server, a mail server, a VOIP PBX, a firewall or an application server. Development is paid by Nethesis, italian software company based in Pesaro.
NethServer is the a re-foundation of SME Server (previously e-smith, developed by Mitel Networks) after the decision of the SME Server project to stall development during 8.2 version. Nethesis choose to fork the project and update the package base from CentOS, as underlying base for kernel, drivers, security updates
The project is open-source based and Linux based, a community version can be downloaded from the project's site. Company also offers paid subscription plans for revised (and delayed) updates, support, ticketing.
