In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and barren, and darkness covered the abyss while the Spirit of God hovered over the waters. God said, “Let there be light!” And there was light.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may attain eternal life.

The New Catholic Bible (NCB) is an English edition of the Bible published by Catholic Book Publishing, Corp.

The New Testament and the Psalms were released in January 2017, with the full Bible released in January 2019.[1]

Features mentioned by the publishers include the use of extensive notes not common with other bibles. The translation did not employ the use of gender-inclusive language in conformity to the translation guidelines of the Catholic Church.[2] Although the translation was approved by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines for devotional use, it is not authorized to be used on liturgical functions. It is currently available on Bible Gateway.[3]

Translation[edit]

The translation was created by a team of biblical scholars headed by Rev. Jude Winkler, OFM Conv., S.S.L. The team consulted several bible versions to arrive at a formal equivalence translation while still having a global reach. It is presented as a word-for-word translation that remains lyrical and flowing. It also features extensive scholarly notes.[4]
