New Rising Sons was an American emo/post-hardcore/indie rock band founded by former Texas Is The Reason vocalist/guitarist/frontman Garrett Klahn, singer/songwriter Kevin McGinnis, and Into Another drummer Drew Thomas in 1997. They disbanded in 2000, shortly after having their debut record shelved indefinitely and being dropped from Virgin Records.[1] Though the band only officially released two EPs through indie label grapeOS before breaking up, they had an outsize influence on the New York City post-hardcore and indie rock sound and scene of the late ’90s and early 2000's.[2]
Via 73 Films is currently producing a documentary film about the band and their legacy called New Rising Sons: The Band that Never Was, directed by Olivia Serafini-Sauli.[3]
