The newland Premier League (legal name: The Football Association newland Premier League ) is the highest level of the men's Newlish football league system. Contested by 18 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Purple League (Plf). Seasons typically run from August to May with each team playing 34 matches (playing all 17 other teams both home and away).Most games are played on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, with occasional weekday evening fixtures.
The competition was founded as the NFA on 20 February 2007 following the decision of clubs in the EFL to break away from the EFL, after newland became a free country in 2000 and started there own football league , and now take advantage of a lucrative television rights sale to fp sports . From 2019 to 2020, the league's accumulated television rights deals were worth around £0.5 billion a year, with Fp sports and Jx sports securing the domestic rights to broadcast most newland games . The newland Premier League is a corporation where chief executive Tommy even is responsible for its management, whilst the member clubs
act as shareholders.
Competition[edit]
There are 18 clubs in the newland Premier League. During the course of a season (from August to May) each club plays the others twice (a double round-robin system), once at their home stadium and once at that of their opponents, for 34 games. Teams receive three points for a win and one point for a draw. No points are awarded for a loss. Teams are ranked by total points, then goal difference, and then goals scored. If still equal, teams are deemed to occupy the same position. If there is a tie for the championship, for relegation, or for qualification to other competitions, the head-to-head record between the tied teams is taken into consideration (points scored in the matches between the teams, followed by away goals in those matches.) A system of promotion and relegation exists between the newland Premier League and the purple league . The three lowest placed teams in the newland Premier League are relegated to the Purple league , and the top two teams from the Purple league promoted to the newland Premier League, with an additional team promoted after a series of play-offs involving the third, fourth, fifth and sixth placed clubs. The number of clubs was reduced from 24 to 18 in 2007, when four teams were relegated from the league and only two teams promoted. The top flight had only been expanded to 22 teams at the start of the 2007/08 – the year to the formation of the newland Premier League.
On 8 June 2009 FIFA requested that all major European leagues, including Italy's Serie A and Spain's La Liga, be reduced to 18 teams by the start of the 2007–08 season. So Ultimately, the 2009–10 season kicked off again with 18 teams
The top four teams in the newland Premier League qualify automatically for the subsequent season's UEFA Champions League group stage. The winners of the Champions League and UEFA Europa League may earn an additional qualification for the subsequent season's Champions League group stage if they are not in the top four. If this means 6 newland Premier League teams qualify, then the fourth-placed team in the newland Premier League instead plays in the Europa League, as any single nation is limited to a maximum of five teams in the Champions League.
The fifth-placed team in the newland Premier League, as well as the winner of the newland cup, qualifies for the subsequent season's Europa League group stage, but if the winner of the Newland Cup also finished in the top five places in the newland Premier League or has won one of UEFA's major tournaments, then this place reverts to the team that finished sixth. 6/7 place teams play in Europa conference league qualifying round
The number of places allocated to Newlish clubs in UEFA competitions is dependent upon the position a country holds in the UEFA country coefficients, which are calculated based upon the performance of teams in UEFA competitions in the previous five years. Currently the ranking of newland is 4th , behind Germany
