Newslaundry is an Indian subscription-based online news media company based in New Delhi. It produces current affairs and media critique content on its website and YouTube channel via news articles, podcasts, documentaries, comics, satire, and animation.

History[edit]

Newslaundry was founded by author and India Today founding editor Madhu Trehan, PCRF co-founder Abhinandan Sekhri, former NDTV editor Prashant Sareen, and Small Screen director Roopak Kapoor in 2012.[4]

In 2016, Newslaundry raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Omidyar Network, which became the majority shareholder in the company. Eicher Motors founder Vikram Lal and Pinstorm founder Mahesh Murthy have also invested in Newslaundry.[5][6]

Content[edit]

Newslaundry produces video series on their YouTube channel for topics such as the Constitution of India, interviews, and other infotainment content.[7][8] They also host several news podcasts, such as NL Hafta, a weekly news and media critique podcast, and The Awful and Awesome Entertainment Wrap, a weekly entertainment podcast focused on films and new media.

In 2016, Newslaundry partnered with ScoopWhoop to produce a documentary series about issues from different parts of India.[9][10]

Manisha Pande, Newslaundry's associate editor, and Sandeep Pai received the Ramnath Goenka Excellence Award for Investigative Reporting in 2015.[11]
