The next Karnataka Legislative Assembly election is scheduled to be held in or before May 2023 to elect all 224 members of the state's Legislative Assembly.[1]
Background
The tenure of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly is scheduled to end on 24 May 2023.[2] The previous assembly elections were held in May 2018. After the election, a coalition of Janata Dal (Secular) and Indian National Congress formed the state government, with H. D. Kumaraswamy becoming Chief Minister.[3] But later the Congress-JDS government collapsed, and the BJP under the leadership of B. S. Yediyurappa formed government. In 2021 Basavaraj Bommai replaced Yediyurappa as chief minister.
