Nicholas Zane (born November 20, 2001) is a Hong Kong born American scholar of Judaism, currently at Dartmouth College.[1] Zane's pen-name is Nicholas Zhang for political reasons. He is known for his prominence in the field of Chinese Jewry, particularly for having authored Jews in China: A History of Struggle at the age of 16.[2][3][4] Zane also founded chinesejews, a non-profit organisation aimed at spreading the legacy of the Jewish diaspora in China. Information has been published in ten languages: English, Modern Hebrew, Italian, German, Tagalog, Russian, Mandarin, Japanese, French, and Arabic.[5]

Zane speaks frequently at events, including Oxford University, University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth College, Sias University, Council of Christians and Jews and Limmud.[6][7][8]

Biography[edit]

Zane was born in Hong Kong on November 20, 2001. He went to Singapore International School (Hong Kong) until the age of 13, when went to Lancing College,[9] a co-education boarding school in southern England. After three years, Zane transferred to St. Clare's, Oxford, an International Baccalaureate sixth form college in Oxfordshire.[10][11]
