Ahmadyar Gharany (born June 6, 1985) is an Afghan entrepreneur and business leader. He is the Chairman and CEO of Gharany Group of Companies, a conglomerate with interests in construction, hospitality, energy, Gas & Oil, gemstones, and luxury goods.

Early life and education[edit]

Ahmad Yar Gharany is the younger son of Mr. Mohammad Yar Khan Gharany and Bibi Hanifa Sadat Gharany. He was born in a family of the Gharany of Nangarhar, Afghanistan, He earned his Bachelor degree of Engineering in electrical & electronics from Kabul University in 2007, and received a higher education degree in building and management from TAFE University Australia in 2015. Ahmad Yar’s father Mohammad Yar Khan died in 2002 without leaving a clear succession plan. His mother Bibi Hanifa Sadat hand over family responsibilities to the younger son, Ahmad Yar received responsibilities with interest and start focusing in business.[1]

Ahmadyar Gharany entrepreneurial journey began in 2010 with the establishment of Gharany Group of Companies (GGC), an umbrella organization overseeing his diverse business ventures. Early on, he diversified his portfolio with companies like State Women Construction a company specializing in the construction industry with an initial investment of $2 million, he aimed to build a well-equipped and respected company within the market.

Over the years, Ahmadyar has diversified his portfolio, establishing numerous successful companies:

Gharany Excellence Construction (GEC): Established in 2014 with a $3 million investment, GEC focuses on power and infrastructure projects, including power distribution, generation, and transmission lines.

Stone Bridge Construction (SBC): Founded in 2017 with a $10 million investment, SBC plays a vital role in developing Afghanistan's infrastructure by undertaking road construction projects.

Golden Star Hotel: Recognizing the potential of Kabul's hospitality industry, Ahmadyar acquired the Golden Star Hotel, a 4-star luxury hotel located in the heart of the city, in 2018. The purchase involved a $12 million investment.

Ajman Gas: In 2019, Ahmadyar expanded his business ventures to the United Arab Emirates, investing $20-$25 million in the gas sector. This included a significant investment in Ajman Gas LPG Gas Company, an integrated LPG supply and storage company.

Gharany Mining: In 2021, Ahmadyar further expanded his ventures by establishing Gharany Mining, a company dedicated to mineral extraction in Afghanistan. Gharany Mining is distinguished by its $25 million investment in cutting-edge technology and a team of seasoned domestic and foreign experts, propelling it to international acclaim in a short period.

Gharany Gemstone: Recognizing the potential of Afghanistan's gemstone industry, Gharany established GGC in 2020 with a $50 million investment. GGC aims to become the leading gemstone supplier in Afghanistan and has established itself as the first legal gemstone company in the country.

Gharany Stonex: Gharany further expanded its business scope in 2021 by establishing Gharany Stonex with $22 million investment. This entity focuses on transforming Afghanistan's rarest stones, such as Lapis Lazuli, Jade, Marble, and Onyx, into stunning slabs and decorative items.

Gharany Luxury: Expanding beyond construction and resources, Gharany established Gharany Luxury in 2022 with $4 million investment. This entity dives into the world of luxury, showcasing its expertise through the manufacture of hand-woven Afghan carpets, bespoke luxury furniture, and comprehensive home and office interior design services.

Cage Combat (C30): As a passionate sports enthusiast, Ahmadyar also invested in Cage Combat (C30) in 2023, a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotion company dedicated to elevating Afghan MMA and its fighters to the international stage.

Gharany Foundation: Driven by a deep sense of social responsibility, Ahmadyar established Gharany Foundation, a humanitarian organization dedicated to supporting vulnerable communities and empowering individuals.
