Nicola Mar (born March 16, 1984) is an Austrian American author and model who grew up on the Caribbean island of St. Maarten, where she lived until the age of 18. She then moved to the U.S. to continue her education, graduating from Rollins College with a Bachelor's degree in anthropology and a specialty in creative writing.[1][2] While still in college, she began taking modeling jobs.
Early life[edit]
Mar was born in Chicago and raised on the Caribbean island of St. Maarten.[3] Her father is Austrian and her mother is American. Her family moved to Austria briefly when Nicola was two years old, but eventually moved back to the island two years later.
Nicola has one brother whom she always enjoyed playing sports with in high school. When she wasn't outdoors on the island, she spent her time reading novels and dreaming of becoming a writer. Her first short story was published in her yearbook when she was seven years old.[citation needed]
Career[edit]
Nicola is represented in New York City by Cathy Quinn Models.[4]
She has been featured in advertisements for Cybex, Speedo, and Yochi Ben and has walked in fashion shows for Emilio Pucci and Speedo.[5]
Nicola was recently chosen to model all of the new bikinis and bathing suits from Victoria's Secret.[6]
Now a full-time writer and model based in New York, Nicola has clients across the globe. Possessing dual citizenship (American/Austrian) has made it easy for Nicola to work and travel in the United States and the European Union. In her free time, she enjoys creating a chronicle of trips to five continents through her own personal photography.
Personal Life[edit]
Nicola spends most of her time in her home in New York City. She claims to be a very spiritual person and credits meditation, exercise and healthy eating as a way of dealing with challenges in life.[7]
