Nigel Williams (born April 18, 1988 in Aurora, Illinois) is an American former professional ice hockey defenseman. He last played for the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League (AHL) in the 2010–11 season.
Playing career[edit]
Williams was drafted by the Saginaw Spirit in 12th Round of the 2005 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Priority Selection, 263rd overall. Williams was projected to be the 11th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, but was chosen in the second round by the Colorado Avalanche.
Williams later left the University of Wisconsin to play in the OHL. In the 2007–08 OHL season, he was traded to the Belleville Bulls helping the Bulls advance to the Memorial Cup before they were eliminated in the semi-finals.[1] Williams was signed to an entry-level contract with the Avalanche on August 11, 2008.[2]
In the 2008–09 AHL season, Williams made his professional debut with Avalanche affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL. He finished the season with 21 points in 70 games, leading the Monsters' defense.
On July 16, 2009, Williams was traded by the Avalanche to the New York Rangers in exchange for Brian Fahey.[3] On November 23, 2010, Williams was then traded by the Rangers to the Anaheim Ducks for Stu Bickel.[4]
