The Nigerian Environmental Society is a professional, non-profit organization with its headquarters in Nigeria. The society works to conserve, advance, and sustain the environment while advancing the field of environmental science and engineering, both in theory and in practice. Nigerian Environmental Society helps to foster and promote the profession of environmental science and engineering in theory and practice and also enhance the usefulness of the profession in the public. they promote and foster the interest of environmental scientist and engineers.[1][2][3]
Nigerian Environmental Society main area of focus is on Environmental Pollution, Water and Sanitation, Energy and Public Health. Their activities are advocacy, public-private advisory and public education/awareness. They achieve these activities through the following strategies: aggressive out-door campaigns; media interaction and press conferences; public seminars, lectures and workshops; membership of government technical committees.[4]

The Nigerian Environmental Society was first inaugurated on 17 October 1985 in Lagos and has remained the largest environmental NGO in Nigeria, with twenty-four branches. The society plays an active role in local and international environmental programs.[5][6]
