Nightmare on Film Street is a horror genre focused website and podcast covering horror films, television, video games, comics, and music based in Canada. The name is a play on words of A Nightmare on Elm Street, the 1984 film by Wes Craven. It is also known for producing the 'Do Us Part' segment on the upcoming feature film Sinphony: A Horror Anthology.[1][2]
History[edit]
Nightmare on Film Street was founded in 2016 by Kimberley Elizabeth and Jonathan Dehaan[3] in Ontario, Canada.[4] Originating as a Film Review podcast, the site expanded to reviews, interviews, and editorials in the horror genre. The website's current Editor is Grant DeArmitt.[5]
In 2018, they were the first horror website to get Candyman(1992) actor Tony Todd's statement on the Candyman (2021) remake helmed by Jordan Peele, saying “I'd rather have him do it, someone with intelligence, who's going to be thoughtful and dig into the whole racial makeup of who Candyman is and why he existed in the first place.”[6][7][8]
In September 2020, they were the first horror website to confirm Jenna Ortega had been cast as the lead in Scream (2022), as revealed in an interview with Babysitter: Killer Queen director McG, a film in which Ortega also stars.[9]
Nightmare on Film Street joined the Fangoria podcast network under Cinestate in January 2020,[10] but the network was disbanded in July 2020.[11][12][13] They joined the Bloody Disgusting podcast network in September 2020.[14] The podcast has since gone independent, launching a listener-based support platform on Patreon.[15]
Accolades[edit]
The podcast was nominated for a Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Award in 2020 for their "provocative takes on horror".[16] Nightmare on Film Street was recommended as one of "12 horror movie podcasts that you need to subscribe to as soon as possible" by Variety in October, 2021.[17]
