Nika is the fourth studio EP from the American rock band Deal Casino.

Content[edit]

The four-track EP was self-released on 10 July 2015. The EP was produced by Jeff Leidersdorff, and engineered and mixed by Erik Kase Romero, at the Lakehouse Recording Studio in Asbury Park, New Jersey.[1] It was tracked live to tape, and the band describes it as a "mix of vintage and modern feeling."[2] Nika is classified as alternative rock, and draws comparison to the music of the rock bands the Gaslight Anthem, Neon Trees, and Young the Giant, and late 1960s and 1970s rock.[3][4][5]

The record release party for the EP was held at Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park, New Jersey, on 10 July 2015, with Deaf Rhino, dollys, and Smalltalk.[1][2] A concert review of the show called it an "electric night of rock 'n' roll [to a] rabid and excited hometown crowd."[6]

Reception[edit]

The Aquarian Weekly writes that Deal Casino "continues to show real surprise up their sleeve. Nika combins traditional and stylistic accomplishment with extremely agreeable lyrical confession, and the rebellious persistence to never stay the same." They call the song "Anything That's Bad" their favorite, noting it's "addictive guitar melodies and breathy, stark vocals."[7] Speak Into My Good Eye describes it as "filled with emotion, walking through a back alley on a rainy night after breaking up with your significant other type of spooky."[5]
