Nikolay Genchev (Bulgarian: Николай Генчев; November 2, 1931; Nikolaevo – November 22, 1996; Sofia) is a Bulgarian historian and a researcher of the Bulgarian National Revival.

He graduated from the Veliko Tarnovo Boys' High School and the Faculty of Philosophy and History, majoring in History at Sofia University.

Assistant Professor of History at the Faculty of Philosophy and History of Sofia University “Kl. Ohridski ”since 1960. He specialized in Romania (1974), France (1974 and 1976), Spain (1979, 1981) and Belgium (1985). Associate Professor since 1970, Professor of History since 1974. He defended his Ph.D. dissertation in 1964 and his doctoral dissertation in 1979.

Dean of the Faculty of History in the period 1975-1982. Founder and head of the Department of History and Theory of Culture since 1981 and of the Center for Cultural Studies at Sofia University since 1986. Rector of Sofia University “St. Cl. Ohridski ”(1991-1993). Corresponding Member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences since 1989.

Adviser to the Government of Algeria (1964-1965). Vice-Chairman of the UNESCO Committee on Natural and Historical Values (1978-1982).

Winner of the International Herder Prize for Contribution to European Science (1989) and the Ordre des Palmes académiques (1993).

Founder and chairman of the Bulgarian Constitutional Forum (1991). [1]
