Nithya (born 2 June 1983),[1] better known as Nithya Balaji or Nithya Dheju, is an Indian television personality, motivational speaker and entrepreneur.[2][3]
Career
Nithya started her career by participating in the Star Vijay's reality dance show Jodi Number One in 2010 as a contestant. After her show, Nithya started hosting modeling events for women in Chennai. She also became a full-time counseling psychologist for people who were dealing with mental health problems. Later, in 2018, Nithya joined the reality show Bigg Boss Tamil 2 as a 'commoner' contestant hosted by actor Kamal Haasan. Nithya was eventually evicted on the 28th day of the show, finishing in 15th position.[4][5]
Personal life controversy
In 2017, Nithya filed a divorce case and complaint in front of the media networks in Chennai 'Madhavaram' police station with her husband Thadi Balaji.[6][7] She accused her husband of severe torture towards her and her daughter Poshika after drinking alcohol daily while drunk. Balaji also accused Nithya of having an extra-marital affair with another person, but Nithya later denied the issue.[8][9] After the birth of their daughter Poshika, the couple separated, but currently their divorce is still pending. However, Nithya publicly gave a statement saying that she will no longer be able to live with Balaji anymore after the torture and cruel punishments she and her daughter have faced.[10][11] In 2019, their case got a closure from Tamil Nadu high court.[12][13][14] During Bigg Boss Tamil 2, Thadi Balaji abused Nithya in a vulgar term, which made the public accuse Balaji of spoiling her reputation.[15][16]
