Early life[edit]

He was born in the village of Chotala[1] on 2 April 1730, on 14th Ramadan. His father was Handal and mother was Aqil Bibi. He was born as Bahbal Maharvi. Later His shaikh (Pir/Murshid) Hazrat Molana Fakhar ud Din, Muhib-un-Nabi changed his name to Noor Muhammad Maharvi. He had three brothers and one sister. By cast he was a Panvar Kharal. A darvish used to come often to see Aqil Bibi when she was just a child. People enquired the Dervish for his visits. He said that "I come to pay homage to the child which this girl will give birth to. He will illuminate the world and will be a great Sufi saint." It is claimed that he did not eat or drink each day until sunset. When his grandmother discussed this with Ahmad Fakeer, he claimed that Maharvi was not drinking milk because it was Ramadan, and he was fasting.

Education[edit]

At age 6,[1] he was brought to Hafiz Masood Mahar for Qu'ranic education. After finishing, he traveled to the village of Pheeda and then to Belana, where he was taught by Dera Ghazi Khan. He then went to Lahore, accompanied by Mokam ud deen Serani. He was a beggar and one night fell in the dark making his clothes filthy. He asked God for assistance, and from that day, received sustenance from an unknown source and ceased begging. He went to Delhi and completed his education there.

Meeting Fakhar Jahan[edit]

He was depressed until one of his friends suggested he meet Maulana Fakharudin, a great scholar and Peerzada. He reached Fakharudin's and saw him sitting at a bed with a pillow. Fakharudin left the bed to meet him and asked "where do you live?" Maharvi replied that his home town was near Maharsharief and requested Fakharudin to teach him, to which he agreed.

Mureed hona[edit]

Maharvi started to visit Fakharudin as a student. He was impressed by Fakharudin's knowledge, saying "He was ocean of knowledge."[citation needed] One day Fakharudin told Maharvi to not waste his time in apparent knowledge, but get into the knowledge he deserves.[clarification needed] Then Fakharudin made Hazoor Quibla Alam his murid at the tomb of Qutb udin on the day of URS of Mahboob Ilahi.

Return to Mahar Sharif[edit]

Fakharudin ordered Quibla e Alam to go back to Mahar Sharief and benefit his people. He came to Mahar Sharief and started guiding them down the true path. Soon, his place became famous[citation needed] and even the Nawab of Bahawalpur became his murid. Around five hundred disciples accompanied him when he went to PakPattan. Quibla e Alam had a great love for his Pir. He used to spend six months in Delhi and six months in Mahar Sharif.

Death[edit]

Just after the death of Quibla e Alam, Maharvi became ill, and he died on 3 August 1791. His tomb is in Chistian. He left three sons and two daughters.
