Nikolai Sergeevich Novikov (Russian: Николай Сергеевич Новиков) (1920 — 1st of December 1941) — sergeant, lineman of 28th battalion of Signal Corps of 1st Guards Motor Rifle Division.

Heroic act[edit]

On 1 of December 1941 he was sent to repair the line. He found a breach and tried to establish the connection, but he was spotted by Germans. They started shooting and seriously wounded Nikolai. Nikolai Novikov couldn't splice the wire, that's why he clenched the wire between his teeth and started firing back [1]. He managed to keep the connection through the whole battle. When his comrades found his body, he was found with the wire in his teeth.

His heroic act was mentioned in memoirs of People's Commissar of Signal Corps of the USSR Ivan Peresypkin.[2]

Soviet poet Alexey Surkov dedicated his verse to Nikolai Novikov's heroic act.[3]

Soviet painter Gorelov drawn a picture dedicated to Nikolai Novikov's act of bravery.[4]
