Novl. (Born May 25, 1994), is a South African rapper, songwriter and record producer from Lephalale, Limpopo. He initially gained recognition as a rapper following the releases of two projects: Abstract thoughts II (2016) and ...it must be the LOWs (2018).[2]

Early life and Education

Novl. was born Tshepo Nkoana in Polokwane, Limpopo, and grew up in Johannesburg, Gauteng.[2] Novl. started rapping at the age of 16.[2][1] Novl. attended Hoërskool Ellisras for his high school years, and that is where he learned the art form of Rap music and the Hip Hop Culture. He then pursued his studies at the University of Johannesburg.[2]

Musical career

2014–16: Career beginnings and various projects

In 2014, December 24th, Novl. released his first mixtape titled Abstract Thoughts which was released and distributed under Page1One Records.[3] In September 2015, Novl. went further to release a follow-up project titled Preparation for Blessings. Preparation For Blessings only comprised of 7 songs as opposed to Abstract Thoughts which had 17 songs, and with high expectations as his first project, it didn't perform as well as Abstract Thoughts.[2]

In 2016 Novl. started working on the sequel of his first mixtape Abstract Thoughts. That’s when Abstract Thoughts II: Conscious Tshepo was born.[3] The standard and quality were better than the first two projects. The project comprised of 19 songs of nothing but pure lyrical genius.[4] The success of Abstract Thoughts II helped to boost his fan base and to be recognized in the game for his efforts.

2018–present

In 2018 May 25th, Novl. released the project titled …it must be the LOWs. [5] It was composed as therapy, it was written as acknowledgment of being depressed yet not out, it was composed as a cry for help and it accomplished its purpose by living up to the expectations.[2] …it must be the LOWs is a very emotive, dark and moody 10 track project bringing a different dynamic element approach towards rap music; it is a sad record.[1]

In May 25th 2019, Novl. released a 5 track EP coined Planet 25.[6]

In December 2nd 2019, Novl. released For My. Conscience which consists of 14 tracks.[6]
