O'Neil Brown is a former Canadian soccer player who played in the National Professional Soccer League, and the Canadian Professional Soccer League.

Playing career[edit]

Brown began his career in 1996 with the Toronto Shooting Stars of the National Professional Soccer League.[1][2] After appearing in four matches he was traded to the Edmonton Drillers. He played with Edmonton for three seasons appeared in 122 matches, and recorded 14 goals. In 2000, he signed with expansion franchise Toronto ThunderHawks, and helped the team finish second in the National Conference. After the demise of the NPSL he signed with North York Astros of the Canadian Soccer League.[3] In 2003, he signed with expansion franchise Metro Lions, and was appointed team captain.[4] In his first season with the Lions he helped to secure a postseason berth by finishing third in the Eastern Conference, and helped the club post the second best defensive record. In the postseason the club faced Ottawa Wizards in the semi-finals, but suffered a 1-0 defeat.[5]In 2003, Brown contract was renewed for the 2003 season.[6] Throughout the season he helped the Lions reach the Open Canada Cup final against London City, but were defeated 4-2 in penalties.[7] Unfortunately the Metro Lions failed to secure a playoff berth by finishing fifth in their division.
