OFRA Cosmetics is an International[1] cosmetics and skin care[2][3] brand[4] based in Pompano Beach, Florida. They predominantly make highly pigmented products for the lips, eyes, and face.[5]

Current products include lip products[6][7], eye products[8][9][10][11], and complexion products[12], like foundation, blush[13][14], highlighter[15][16][17], and bronzer,[18] as well as skin care and body products. They are most well-known for their highlighters[19][20][21][22][23][24][25], eyebrow pencils[26], and long lasting liquid lipsticks[27][28][29][30]. OFRA's target market is anyone who loves to wear makeup, and the brand is also designed to appeal to customers who wish to purchase cruelty-free makeup. Its products are sold in the United States, at Ulta[31] and on their official website, and in various other counties around the world[32].[33][34]

History[edit]

Ofra Gaito, a therapist and makeup artist, entered the beauty industry in 1979. During the years she lived in South Africa, Ofra worked in the field of esthetics. She traveled and completed several courses with well-known cosmetic brands in Germany, France, and United States. Gaito also earned her postgraduate, CIDESCO course in Johannesburg. The CIDESCO, which stands for Comité International d'Esthétique et de Cosmétologie or The International Committee of Aesthetics and Cosmetology[35], diploma is highest qualifying certification in the field of Esthetics and Beauty Therapy that can be earned by an individual[36][37][38][39]. Throughout the 1980's, Gaito opened her first salons and spas, which would lead to her expanding business to include product distribution for European cosmetic companies in South Africa[40], Australia, and New Zealand.

By 1994, Ofra and, her husband, David, created their own line of skin care and makeup products, and OFRA Cosmetics was being produced stateside. Ofra and David relocated to the United States in 1998 and opened manufacturing facilities in Ft. Lauderdale. The first OFRA Day Spa and Laser Center soon followed in the spring of 2001 and provided face, body, and hair treatments using only OFRA Cosmetics skin care and makeup until it closed.

Today, OFRA is an internationally recognized name in its industry as it sells products in many countries around the world. Additionally, OFRA supplies professional beauty kits to over 950 United States cosmetology schools and salons. Up until recently, the only place to purchase OFRA makeup was on their official site, but in 2018, OFRA launched its products in 451 Ulta Beauty stores[41][42][43]. OFRA decided to rebrand the same year.[44]

A number of OFRA's products have been featured in various forms of media from television to music concerts, including being featured in James Charles' show, Instant Influencer.[45] Carrie Underwood credited her bronzed legs to OFRA's RCK Body Glow[46].[47] They have also provided makeup for celebrities and musical artists such as Cardi B,[48][49][50][51] whose entire makeup look for the 2018 Grammys consisted of OFRA products[52].

Collaborations[edit]

Recent influencer collaborations for OFRA Cosmetics include[53] Nikki Tutorials[54][55][56][57],[58] who has been the inspiration for multiple highlighters[59][60][61][62], and Manny[63][64] MUA[65][66].[67][68][69] Paris Hilton was accused of copying Nikki's popular OFRA highlighter[70][71]. However the most recent collaboration is with Jessica Dadlani, an influencer located in Florida. In the past, OFRA has also partnered with many other influencers based in the United States such as Huda Kattan[72], Francesca Tolot,[73] Samantha March[74][75], KathleenLights,[76] and Madison Miller[77]. They also have partnered with international influences like Kim Thai[78], Waheeda Khan[79] and Talia Mar.[80] The company just partnered with Israeli-Arab singer, Nasrin Qadri.[81] Through these partnerships, OFRA has created many new products as well as many different online makeup tutorials[82] featuring these products and influencers. They also have ambassadors, such as Nicol Concilio[83], who regularly promote various products.

Social Responsibility[edit]

Participating in PETA's "Beauty Without Bunnies" program[84], OFRA Cosmetics is certified by PETA[85] and Leaping Bunny[86] as cruelty-free[87] and vegan[88][89]. This means neither their products or anything involved in the process of creating their products has ever been tested on animals, nor does anything contain any materials that come from animals[90][91]. This is true for their products that are sold both nationally and internationally[92][93]. The company also does not sell their products in places where animal testing is required. OFRA has committed itself to being cruelty-free forever and to encourage change within the rest of the beauty industry as well. In addition to their cruelty-free business model, the company also sponsors adoption events and gives the proceeds of specially made products to their local animal shelters to further their platform of animal rights.
