Office Timeline is a Bellevue, Washington based software company that develops project visualization software for project managers and project planners. The software produces summary views of Gantt charts and timelines used for client and executive reporting. Office Timeline also provides simple task management, milestone management functionality, and project scheduling. The software is marketed as freemium software with a perpetually free version that offers basic functionality and a Plus (+) version that unlocks premium features. The company launched in October 2012 and the Office Timeline add-in reached one million downloads by 2015.
History
Office Timeline was conceived by an enterprise project manager who needed to create and present timelines and project plans for business reviews and internal communications. The software was originally designed as a .NET application extension (add-in) for Microsoft Office to enable the creation of project visuals as native PowerPoint slides. The initial prototypes were published as freeware and the software was featured by several blogs, including the Kim Komando show in 2011, which led to a rapidly growing user base. In 2012, the software was transitioned from prototype development into a structured development cycle that began introducing enterprise enhancements, including the following developments:
- 11/2013 – Introduction of project management reporting features
- 11/2014 - Patent-pending smart algorithm for automatic timeline layout
- 1/2015 – Integration with Smartsheet
- 9/2015 – Integration and synchronization with Microsoft Project versions 2007–2016
- 1/2016 – Integration with Wrike
- 4/2016 – Integration with Microsoft Excel versions 2007–2016
- 8/2016 – Synchronization with Microsoft Excel versions 2007–2016

Pincello
Pincello is Office Timeline’s cloud-based timeline maker and service. Early prototypes of an online timeline maker built on Office Timeline’s rendering and layout algorithms were first published and market-tested in 2014. Positive customer feedback and a growing demand for team-based solutions with cloud-based backups and storage led to the design of an integrated on-premise and cloud-based service. Office Timeline began development of Pincello in 2015 and will release the product for preview in Q4 2016.
