Olly Sholotan
Olly Sholotan is a Nigerian-American[1] actor. He played Carlton Banks in Bel-Air (2022), a dramatic reboot of the 1990s television series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,
Early life
Sholotan is from Houston, Texas.[2] He moved with his family to the United States from Nigeria when he was 10 years old.[3] His father worked on an oil rig.[4]
Sholotan graduated from Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. He was a YoungArts finalist and went on to attend UCLA's School of Theater, Film, and Television.[2] At UCLA, he studied musical theatre and was a part of "Company" at UCLA Spring Sing.[5]
Career
Sholotan is a singer under his own independent music label, Lamintin Records.[2]
Sholotan made his television debut in 2022 as Carlton Banks in Peacock's Bel-Air.[2] The streaming television series is a dramatic retelling of the 1990s NBC sitcom series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The original Carlton (played by Alfonso Ribeiro) was a sheltered and dorky character, often employed as a punchline, whereas Sholotan's Carlton is an overachiever with a drug problem that struggles with the arrival of his cousin, Will Smith.[6][7]
