OnThisDateInHipHop, also known as OTDIHH, is a privately-owned hip hop news and media website, launched in March 2015. Initially serving as an almanac for Hip-Hop related events, On This Date In Hip-Hop extended its services to deliver news on current happenings in the Hip-Hop industry, establishing the brand as a Hip-Hop blog as well. With Instagram being its main method of information delivery, OTDIHH has gained the following of many notable Hip-Hop figures, outlets and media personalities such as DJ Premier, Havoc, E-40, Warren G, DJ Pooh, Easy Mo Bee, Grandmaster Flash, Joyner Lucas, Rich Paul, King T, CeeLo Green, Elliott Wilson, The Source, Tyrese Gibson, and more.[1]

History[edit]

On This Date In Hip-Hop was created by writer Bleep tha No Name Bastard in an effort to rebrand a media company that was "blacklisted" on the Los Angeles Hip-Hop scene. Bleep's initial reason for creating a media company was to build a lane (audience) that he could present his music to.[2] On March 19, 2015, On This Date In Hip-Hop logos and biography were uploaded to Instagram. OTDIHH's 1st post would be March 20th, 2015 with a birthday post to producer Manny Fresh.

Using music industry connections from his previous media company, Bleep was able to secure EXCLUSIVE content from Bone Thugs N Harmony on the 20th anniversary of Eazy-E's death,[3] helping the page grow 700 followers in 12 days.

While On This Date In Hip-Hop initially set out to be an almanac of past events (birthdates, death dates, album and event anniversaries) in Hip-Hop, the site switched its format to also cover present and upcoming events when Immortal Technique was arrested on suspicion of robbery on March 28, 2015,[4] reclassifying itself as a Hip-Hop blog.

In 2018, On This Date In Hip-Hop inadvertently sparked a beef between Bizzy Bone, Wack 100 and Migos after reposting a video clip from Bizzy's Facebook Live where he disputed Migo's clain to be the best group ever. Wack 100 reposted the On This Date In Hip-Hop post with disparaging commentary including allegations that Bizzy was a snitch[14] for a robbery that occurred in January of 2009.[15] Bizzy wasn't too happy with On This Date In Hip-Hop reposting his facebook conversation to instagram.[16] The beef would later get Layzie Bone and 21 Savage involved. A few dissed tracks were exchanged and the situation culminated with police coming to Bizzy Bone's house for making viral threats against Migos and 21 Savage with a shotgun.[17]

On November 17, 2018, appearing confused, rapper Joyner Lucas commented on a Parappa The Rapper post by On This Date In Hip-Hop regarding the phrase "BloodBlockedMe".[18][19] The rapper would use "Parappa The Rapper" in the opening bars of his Tory Lanez Litty Again diss released three days later."[20]

Beefs[edit]

In 2015, after posting the anniversary date of 50 Cent releasing an audio recording of G-Unit rapper Young Buck crying, an online beef started between On This Date In Hip-Hop and Young Buck causing Young Buck to block the account. News of the viral exchange made it to Hip-Hop website AllHipHop.com[24] and other hip-hop blogs.

#BloodBlockedMe[edit]

#BloodBlockedMe is a reference to rapper The Game. OnThisDateInHipHop replaces any instance of "The Game" with #BloodBlockedMe after The Game blocked the account on Instagram. [25] Googling the term "bloodblockedme" returns results for The Game.[26]
