One Degree Solar is a for-profit company that designs, manufactures, and distributes solar powered devices across Africa. Products include solar batteries, solar lamps, and low wattage LED bulbs.[1]

The company has partnered with Kiva Loans to allow customers in Kenya and other countries access to these solar devices.[2]

Coca-Cola has partnered with One Degree Solar.[3] The company has also received a grant from the World bank.[4]

Products by One Degree Solar include the Brightbox Plus and Bright1 lamp.[5]

Brightbox Plus[edit]

The Brightbox Plus is used for powering electrical devices that includes a 10W solar panel. This can be used to power up to four lightbulbs at a time or used to charge phones, radios, tablets, and other devices. Brightbox sells for under $80.[6]

The Brightbox Plus contains a Lithium-ion battery whereas the original Brightbox contained an alkaline battery and has been phased out. The battery can power up to 4 150 Lumen LED Bulb for up to 14 hours on full charge. The battery is weather-proof and contains an aluminum handle.

Bright1 Lamp[edit]

The Bright1 Lamp is solar powered task lamp with an LED light, integrated solar panel, and a five years product lifetime. The battery can power about 10 hours at 25 Lumens on full charge and about 6 hours at 40 Lumens. The lamp has a charge indicator and aluminum handle and is water resistant.
