OpenDAM /ˈoʊpən ˈdæm/, short for "Open Digital Asset Management", formerly called Wikipixel version 1, is an awarded[1] free and open-source digital asset management platform written in PHP 5 with the Symfony framework 1.4 and distributed under the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL) version 3.

    History

OpenDAM was originally developed and owned by Wikipixel, a French software company, in 2011.[2] OpenDAM Core became an open-source project in November 2013[3], though the company has redeveloped a new proprietary licensed Media Asset Management Platform under the name Wikipixel version 2.

OpenDAM is now used by international organizations such as Suez Environnement and charitable organizations such as The Salvation Army.

    Features

The standard release of OpenDAM, known as OpenDAM Core, contains basic features common to media content management software. These include user account registration and maintenance, menu management, image and video file upload, RSS feeds, copyright management, and system administration.

The OpenDAM core installation can be deployed onto an existing enterprise content management system, e-commerce website, and CRM platform.

Although OpenDAM offers a sophisticated programming interface for developers, no programming skills are required for installation and administration.

OpenDAM runs on any computing platform that supports both a web server capable of running PHP (including Apache2) and a MySQL database to store content and settings.

    Deployment options

Customers can deploy OpenDAM Core as a software as a service (SaaS) solution in the Wikipixel Cloud, as an on-premises solution behind their firewall, or in the public cloud.

    License

Wikipixel licensed OpenDAM Core (version 1) under the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL) version 3.
