Background[edit]
Owen Roddy is from Ballymun, and he known for being one of the most important people in the history of Irish MMA. ‘Rowdy’ Roddy took up MMA at 18 years of age and was coached by John Kavanagh back when MMA was still a relatively unknown sport. He worked in warehouses after leaving school. He quit his job to be a professional MMA coach and fighter.
While he retired early, many are of the opinion that he would be in the UFC if he was still fighting today. He had to quit MMA due to the injuries that he had sustained. Since then he has worked on being a coach at his own Straight Blast Gym in Charlestown.
He works as Conor McGregor’s Striking Coach and McGregor has often described him as indispensable on his team.
